Quest Building Corp (QBC) is a merit shop commercial subcontractor serving Wisconsin and Northern Illinois since 1998. We provide multi-scope services including rough carpentry, finish carpentry, cabinetry, countertops, and flooring for developers, general contractors, property managers, architects, and designers.
A merit shop is a non-union construction company that hires, compensates, and promotes employees based on their skills, performance, attitude, and commitment to quality rather than union affiliation or seniority. At QBC, we believe career trajectory should be determined by a person's abilities and drive to succeed, not by time on the job or union membership.
Merit Shop vs Union: Our Approach
We have nothing against union shops. It's simply a difference in philosophy. Many of our clients are union general contractors, and we partner effectively with both union and non-union firms.
For our clients, the merit shop approach means working with crews selected for their skills and commitment, not because of union requirements. For our team members, it means advancement is earned through quality work, problem-solving ability, and embodying our core values.
