About QBC LLC

QBC LLC is a merit shop multifamily subcontractor based in DeForest, Wisconsin, serving general contractors and developers across Wisconsin and Northern Illinois.  QBC LLC is also known as Quest Building Corp. You will see both names on contracts, and this website. They are the same team, the same shop, and the same project managers. We provide labor and materials for framing, finish carpentry, cabinetry, and countertops, and we supply building materials, under one contract with one dedicated project manager.

Our mission is to simplify construction so our clients can focus on what’s next. The easier we make building for a general contractor or developer, the more they can build. It’s just that simple. That is where We Make Building Easy comes from.

A merit shop, also called an open shop, is a non-union construction company that hires, pays, and promotes people based on skill, performance, attitude, and commitment to quality rather than union membership or seniority. At QBC, a carpenter’s career trajectory is set by ability and drive, not by time on the job or a union card.

We have nothing against union shops. It is a difference in philosophy, not a feud. Many of our clients are union general contractors, and we work well alongside both union and non-union firms on the same project.

For our clients, merit shop means the crew on your project was selected for skill and commitment. For our team, it means advancement is earned through quality work and problem solving. Integrity and Accountability are two of our twelve core tenets, and merit shop is how we practice both: we earn your business through reliable execution, our crews earn advancement through skilled work, and we take ownership of the results either way.

QBC was founded in 1998 in Madison, Wisconsin, by four friends who ran a custom home framing crew. In 2008 the company moved into large multifamily framing and has grown from there into finish carpentry, cabinetry, countertops, and building materials. Two of the original founders are still active in the business today.

Today QBC is headquartered in DeForest, Wisconsin, just north of Madison, with a 27,000 square foot fabrication shop where we fabricate granite and quartz countertops and stage materials for our projects. Our projects range from tenant improvements to $115M+ multifamily developments. QBC is a member of the Madison Area Builders Association (MABA) and Associated Builders and Contractors of Wisconsin (ABC Wisconsin).

These are not poster words. They show up in small, daily habits. Every QBC crew starts the day with a ten minute Daily Top 3 huddle: each person names the three things they will finish that day, leadership asks what they need to do it, and everyone reports back at the end of the day. That is Communication, Accountability, and Timeliness practiced before the first cut is made. Our Core Tenets are also why our team takes pride in the QBC name.
