Wireless Charging Built Into Countertops: QBC Brings FreePower to Wisconsin

QBC is now a certified FreePower fabricator, bringing wireless charging built into countertops to Wisconsin. No cords, no clutter, just smarter surfaces.

Your phone is dying. Again. You dig through drawers looking for a charging cable. You untangle it from three other cords. You find an outlet. You plug it in. Sound familiar?

What if your countertop could charge your devices without any of that hassle? That's the future QBC is bringing to Wisconsin as one of only two certified FreePower fabricators in the state.

What Is FreePower and Why Should You Care?

FreePower is wireless charging technology built directly into stone surfaces like countertops, vanities, and tables. No charging pucks. No visible devices. No cords cluttering your space.

Here's how it changes the game for your project:

  • Set your phone on the counter and walk away. It charges automatically.
  • No visible charging stations taking up counter space.
  • No cord chaos in your kitchen, bathroom, or lobby.
  • Works with any Qi-enabled device (most smartphones made after 2017).

For restaurant designers, this means charging spots at bars and tables without ugly power strips. For property managers, it means modern amenity spaces that tenants actually want to use. For facilities directors, it's one less thing to maintain or replace.

How Does Wireless Charging in Countertops Work?

FreePower uses a Charging Halo that gets embedded into stone surfaces during fabrication. The technology is invisible once installed. You see the beautiful countertop you chose. Your devices see a charging zone.

The process is straightforward. Design teams plan where charging zones should go and select a quartz or granite material that works with the technology. (Since the charging zone must be 3/16” from the surface, choosing a material that holds up to precise cutting is advisable.)

As the FreePower fabrication partner, QBC must not only install the device into the surface, but they must also install the surface and connect the device to power on site.

If something needs service down the road, the mounting system allows for installation or removal without destroying the surface.

Why Did QBC Become a FreePower Fabricator?

Three reasons drove this decision:

Technology creates differentiation. In a competitive market, wireless charging surfaces give you something real to talk about. Not just another pretty finish. A functional upgrade that solves an actual problem.

We already had the skills. Passing the FreePower certification test on our first attempt proved our CNC team already operates at a high level. Quality and precision aren't new to us. We just applied them to new technology.

Future readiness matters. As devices evolve, buildings need to evolve with them. We want to lead that shift, not chase it. Being one of only two certified fabricators in Wisconsin puts us ahead.

What Does This Mean for Your Next Project?

You get cutting-edge convenience without compromising your design vision. Here's what that looks like in practice:

Restaurant and bar projects: Add charging zones to bar tops and high-top tables. Customers stay longer. They don't ask staff for outlets. They remember the place that made charging easy.

Multi-family common areas: Build resident lounges and co-working spaces that actually get used. Tenants can work from the lobby without hunting for power. That's an amenity worth advertising.

Education and public sector facilities: Create study areas and waiting rooms where people can recharge devices while they wait. Less maintenance than traditional charging stations. No cords to replace or manage.

Office break rooms and conference centers: Give employees and visitors seamless charging in spaces they already use. No visible tech. No cluttered counters. Just surfaces that work smarter.

You still get the look, durability, and surface material you chose. Plus wireless power. No compromise required.
